“Beauty sleep” isn’t just a myth Sleeping Beauty popularized; it is a genuine and legitimate occurence backed by science. It is said that the magic number for the hours of sleep an average adult should have is between 7 and 8 hours. Clocking in these quality hours of shut-eye does have actual physical benefits. The lack of will see your body reacting negatively, such as :
  • Release of more stress hormones, Cortisol;
  • Restlessness, fatigue and lack of concentration;
  • Increased dehydration ;
  • Weight gain
In a nutshell, your body rests, recovers and repairs itself as you sleep. Sleep deprivation decreases blood flow, especially to your face. Here are some references and tips for that optimal rest and  beautiful glow.

Take a Relaxing shower

No better way to relax the mind, body and soul after a long day at work with a nice relaxing hot shower or bath.

Spend quality me-time in the tub filled with salts like the Cowshed SLEEP Calming Bath Salts- it combines calming scents of Lavender and Linden Blossom and a bouquet of Madagascan Ylang Ylang, Moroccan Rose and Indian Palmarosa. A blissful soak will relax the tension in your body and prep it for a good night of sleep.

If a bath isn’t in your books, opt for moisturizing and uplifting bath gels made to calm and clean. Lavender, Verbena are good scent contenders to give a great therapeutic and healing shower.

Aromatherapy

Continue the relaxed vibes of the evening by winding down to a scent candle lit room. Scents like lavender, jasmine, chamomile or those with citrusy nodes are some of the scents that will have your olfactory receptors signal positive emotions to the brain.

Lighting up scented candles like the Aromatherapy Associates Relax Candle will have the West Indian bay and myrrh scents set a relaxing atmosphere for the perfect, peaceful night in.

Moisturize

Make slumber doubly productive and capitalize on the added benefits of night-time creams as your skin seeks relief and restoration from the day’s external pollutants and stress factors.

I’d like to bring the spotlight on a skincare range introduced to me by supermodel Martha Hunt in her Vogue Beauty Secrets video - Rodial’s Dragon's Blood range. This dragon blood isn’t extracted from the real dragons, but instead from the Croton Lechleri tree, which provides reparative and healing properties. The Rodial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Night Cream is a great overnight moisturiser which delivers skin perfecting effects through its various components which plump, hydrate and enhance your skin’s glow while you sleep.

Quality sleep

External factors such as light and sound could affect the quality of your sleep. Especially for light sleepers, consider wearing an eye mask to sleep. Eye masks are intended to block out the light completely and when your brain senses total darkness, it causes the production of melatonin, an important chemical which induces sleep.

Sleep masks like the Slip Silk Sleep Mask made from the same material as the infamous silk pillowcases, SlipSilk™ pillowcase, the softness of the silk will ensure not only deep slumber, but a luxurious night-time experience that is gentle on skin and hair.

Another way to ensure a quality night of rest is using bed sprays like the this works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. The soothing blend of Lavender, Vetivert and Wild Camomile essential oils will help calm the mind in preparation for a restorative slumber.
