The hot and humid weather in Singapore can be a nuisance to keeping our hair tame. Be it the weather, styling damage or the bad habits which are causing the frizz in our hair, we put together a list of tips to help you battle unruly manes.
Nourish it
There are tons of products out there which contain ingredients which can keep your flyaways at bay. Choose the right product for your hair type - if you have fine hair, choose lightweight anti-frizz products; if you have thicker hair you should use heavier oils to nourish your hair.
Mask it
Make sure to also mask your hair at least once a week to replenish the moisture that it needs. Leave in the mask for at least 15 minutes and rinse it with cold water.
Brush wisely
Brushing tangles and knots improperly can cause breakage to your hair, making it unruly. A good brush with soft bristles and specially designed shafts and brush heads will not only tackle the knots your hair right, it will also retain the moisture and evenly distribute your scalp’s natural essential oils. This is a quick and simple way for leaving your hair polished and smooth at the ends.
Washing and drying it right
It’s important to remember not to use water that it too hot - high temperatures strips the essential oils and moisture from your hair. If you’re not a fan of cold showers, start with lukewarm water but remember to rinse with cold water before and after conditioning. Not only will this seal in the moisture, it will also leave a natural shine to your hair.
Getting out of the shower, you’ll have to pat your hair dry instead of “rubbing” it dry because friction creates frizz.
Your hairdryer is also very important - you wouldn’t want a subpar one toasting your hair and scalp. Invest in one with at least ionic technology. What these ionic hairdryers do is emit negative ions that will evaporate the water molecules on your hair faster. The shorter time your hair is exposed to heat, the less frizz it will be exposed to.
