According to estimates from InfoTrends, there are 1200 billion photos taken worldwide in a year. As social media sites like Facebook and Instagram have become very much a necessity in the lives of people today, a good percentage of these 1.2 trillion photos people take capture the essence of the good times spent.

An immediate relation to photos are the smiles we see – there’s no one who’d dislike a sweet, beautiful smile. In fact, smiles are contagious mood lifters, transmitting positive energy to the person smiling and the people around them.

A beautiful smile happens to also be in direct correlation to attractiveness. Achieving a beautiful smile isn’t rocket science (thankfully) and I share some tips to looking fantastic with a million dollar smile.

Maintain Good Oral Hygiene

Dental hygiene is the most important thing for anyone and I’m sure we all know the drill – brush day and night and after meals. I like to floss, rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash, clean my tongue with a tongue cleaner and finish off with a minty toothpaste.

Do not underestimate the power of brushing and flossing – regular brushing and flossing will reduce the bacteria in your mouth and prevent plaque from building up.

Whiten Your Teeth

A study with the universities of Leeds and Central Lancashire showed that people with straight, white and equally spaced teeth were perceived as more attractive. Stained and yellow teeth can also be a bad representation of your oral care habits.  It will be good to take up a whitening treatment with the dentist or use a home kit.

Your whitening treatment will be gone to waste if stain inducing foods such as coffee, wine and soda are consumed regular. You are what you eat and your diet should stay away from sweets and sugar; it should be full of calcium instead.

Wear Red Lipstick

Did you know that red lipstick has the effect of making your teeth appear whiter? Lipstick shades with blue or purple undertones will cancel out the yellow stains on your teeth.

Thinking Positive

Positive thoughts, positive vibes – a happy inner self translates to a happy, beautiful smile.

It can be difficult to always sit on the bright side when life swamps us with lemons. However a healthy mental health can start from as simple as indulging in simple pleasures to relieve the tension from our daily routine. I like to start my day laughing, watching comedic sitcoms on my commute to work and drown in a well-deserved “me” time after a long day, basking in relaxing aromatic scents by lighting up a candle in the room.
